The turbine engine is impractical in battles where logistical support is difficult because the engine consumes too much fuel and is difficult to maintain from mobile support workshops on the battlefield

Re: Army Wraps Up Autonomous Micro-robotics Research Program

Sir.... robots will not save you.

Re: Army Wraps Up Autonomous Micro-robotics Research Program

Excellent point, DemocracyRules.

I am intrigued with the formation-flying configuration of the miniature flying devices. Equipped with sound-receiving, or hearing, capability such a configuration should enable them to pinpoint the sound(s) of gunshots or explosions and accurately report such information to our troops for tactical response. Enemy sniper positions may be subject to compromise by this technology, a great life saver.

Re: Army Wraps Up Autonomous Micro-robotics Research Program

Simms:
Yes! Ubiquitous and minimal-detectable damage assessment devices, sounds boring, but it would produce a massive leap in defense tech. Imagine the benefits that would occur if the phrase, "fire for effect" was supported by actual, instant damage assessment of the target, as the bombardment unfolded.

Bombardments would be much more effective, safer for civilians, and safer for soldiers.

Re: Army Wraps Up Autonomous Micro-robotics Research Program

Put one down each Nork cannon barrel, armed with explosives.

Re: Army Wraps Up Autonomous Micro-robotics Research Program

Potentially invaluable as forward observation scouts, chemical and IED sniffers, radiation monitors, MOUT scouts, damage assessment observers.

Re: Powering Through: Navy Scientists Develop Underwater Wireless Charger

A sick mind always seeks to destroy all life. WaldoAir Corp has developed the XCAM line of sensors, with RGB, NIR and Thermal capabilities. Deployed and working on every continent (minus Antarctica) there are well over 65 (and growing daily) XCAM sensor systems at work every day. Pod weighs from 4-6 pounds, 11 inches in length and 5.75 in diameter, using a fully integrated IMU GPS solution.
